St. Thomas Aquinas JV Boys Soccer vs. Coe Brown    9-20-05

After raining all day the sky held up for the Saints to play.  The afternoon started with the taking of the yearbook team photo.

After the sportsmanship speech and no questions for the referee, game captains Tom Gibney and Justin Guilbert represented the team for the coin toss.

The Saints took the field with Strikers Tom Carroll and Owen " Taco" Cook.  Midfielders Bryan Hennigan, Justin Guilbert, Jamie and Jerry Phontharaksa.  Matt Roginski as Stopper, Andy Stone and Tom Gibney as Fullbacks and Mark Miller as Sweeper. Colin McBride was in the net for St. Thomas.

The game started as an aerial battle with neither team able to get over the others defense.  the Saints then began to control the ball on the ground.

At 8:15 into the game Guilbert scored off a Stone throw-in to put St. Thomas up 1-0.

Miller clears out a Coe Brown through ball causing a player to flinch as the ball rockets by.

10 minutes into the game Taylor MacDonald and Sean Waters enter as outside midfielders and Peter Bergeron and Peter Shwaegerle as strikers

At the 19 minute mark Keith Hallock and Ryan Price went in at outside Midfield.  Linas Kenter and Brett Snyder went in as Strikers.

 At 26:26 Kenter sent a pass over to Jerry Phontharaksa who put it by the Coe Brown Keeper to make the score 2-0.

At 30:20 Coe Brown's strikers teams up to beat the Saints defense to make the score 2-1.

At 39:59 Coe Brown scored again to tie the game 2-2 as the half ended.

 St. Thomas was facing a new game.  The Saints sent out the defense of Miller, Stone, Gibney and Roginski.  The Midfield was Bergeron, Price, Hallock and Snyder.  Kenter and Waters were strikers.

4 minutes and 30 second into the second half Waters battled with the Coe Brown keeper and as he cleared the ball out Hallock chipped it back into the goal to put the Saints up 3-2.

At 52:46 Jamie Phontharaksa took a pass from Schwaegerle and buried it into the back of the Coe Brown net to put St. Thomas up 4-2.

The Saints prepare to defend against another direct free kick, but Coe Brown was able to capitalize and make the score 4-3 at 55:16.

At 61:56 Coe Brown scored again to tie up the game at 4-4.

Bergeron and Schwaegerle take the kick off with just under 20 minutes left in a tie game.

The Saints take a corner kick in the final minutes hoping to win in regulation.

With the game tied at the end of regulation, the game captains went out to toss a coin for overtime.  Coe Brown won and chose ball while St. Thomas chose the end of field to attack.  There would be 10 minutes of Golden Goal overtime.  Coe Brown carried the kick off up into the Saints end.  Miller cleared it out up to Carroll who passed it over Jamie Phontharaksa who took a high chip shot up over the Coe Brown keeper into the net.  St. Thomas had won in 1 minute and 32 seconds.

The Final Score was Saints 5 - Coe Brown 4.  St. Thomas out shot Coe Brown 23 - 16.

                                                       

St. Thomas plays host to Exeter next Monday.
