St. Thomas Aquinas JV Boys Soccer vs. Kennett    10-4-05

    The Saints traveled to North Conway to play Kennett for the second time this season.

Game Captains Matt Roginski and Andy Stone went out and loss the toss.

The Saints started out with Matt Roginski as Stopper, Nick Blunier and Tom Gibney as Fullbacks and Andy Stone as Sweeper on defense.  Five midfielders Bryan Hennigan, Taylor MacDonald, Justin Guilbert, Keith Hallock, Brent Snyder.   Owen " Taco" Cook as the lone striker.  Colin McBride was in the net for St. Thomas

10 minutes into the game the strikers were switched as Peter Bergeron and Linas Kenter went in.  Sean Waters, Jerry and Jamie Phontharaksa Midfielders

20 minutes into the game Snyder, Macdonald, Hallock and Ryan Price went in at midfield.

About two minutes later Price was sent off for inappropriate equipment, Jamie Phontharaksa entered at midfield.  Wasn't it right before the sportsmanship speech that coach Said, " Get your shin guards on, tuck in your shirts and take off all your jewelry"?

At 30:55 Waters sent a pass to Jamie Phontharaksa who made a few moves through the Kennett defense and put one by the keeper to put the Saints up 1-0

With five minutes left in the half Mark Miller went in to play striker to see how his injury from yesterday would cope.

St. Thomas was up 1-0 at the half.  They had out shot the Cougars 10-1.  

The Saints took the field for the second half with Cook and Kenter up front.  Hennigan, Hallock, Price, Snyder in midfield.  Roginski, Gibney, Blunier and Stone on defense with McBride in net.

At 48:51 Cook was fouled in the box and a penalty kick was awarded by the Referee.  Hennigan took the kick and sent it low into the corner to make the score Saints 2- Kennett 0.

At the 50 minute mark Peter Shwaegerle finally got in after finding his lost bag with his cleats.  Shwaegerle and Bergeron went in as strikers and Waters, Guilbert and the Phontharaksa brothers went in at midfield.

At 52:33 MacDonald took a throw-in to Jamie Phontharaksa who made a few moves through the Kennett defense and put one by the keeper to put the Saints up 3-0 getting his second goal of the day.

The Conway Scenic railroad made its scheduled trip up and back during the game.

At 64:23 MacDonald was fouled in the box and a second Penalty kick was awarded by the Referee.  Guilbert was up to take the kick and blasted it into the net past the Kennett keeper to put the Saints up 4-0.

At 56:48 a Kennett player took a shot from 35yard out the went up in a high arc and came down under the cross bar.  Jumping up, McBride was able to get a hand on it, but couldn't tip it out.  Kennett was on the board 4-1.

At 68:36 Waters chipped up a cross pass from the right side that went to Cook in front of the left post.  The Kennett keeper was able to move over towards the left and Cook headed it back to the right where Hallock headed it into the net to put the Saints up 5-1.

With 11 minutes remaining Blunier cleared out a Kennett attack and was fouled badly after the play.  He was helped from the field and spent the remainder of the game with ice on his shin.  Unfortunately there was no card or warning issued to the Kennett player.

At 70:11 Cook was able to break through the Kennett defense with a pass from Waters and score to put the Saints up 6-1.

The game ended with St. Thomas up 6-1.  The Saints out shot Kennett 25-5.  St. Thomas was called for 11 offsides, but Kennett was called for 18 fouls.

                                                       

St. Thomas plays the Exeter Reserve team on Wednesday at home.
