9-21-08 Busy Day on Cape Ann Rail iron.

It was a beautiful sunny New England Sunday.  Crews from numerous railroads were working overtime on Cape Ann Rail's right-of-way.

Two trains from Suleski Transportation head out from the Amesbury yard with freight bound for Beverly and the port of Salem.

The tracks from Amesbury to Beverly go through some beautiful country scenes

Passing white steeples on quaint churches.

Here we see a moose watching some bears busy fishing.

As we pass onto Cape Ann Rail we get permission to proceed to Beverly yard from the dispatcher.

Passing by Cape Ann Light tells the crew they are coming up to Beverly yard.

Coming across the steel arch bridge heading into Beverly yard the morning sun glints on the windshield.

Strings of empty tank cars line the tracks in Beverly yard waiting to be taken to the Port of Salem.

Cape Ann Rails NW2  #1053 is busy making trips moving tankers of Bio Diesel, Home heating oil and Fish guts from the port of Salem.

PDLX (Paul David Leasing Company) SD-402's bring a string of BN freight cars up from the south shore.

Their shops have been busy repainting cars to keep the old BN Green around.

Their crews work hard to keep their equipment clean.
(Rumor has it that it tells them in their handbooks they have to wipe down the equipment at every stop)

Here is a shot of the two units working hard towards the Beverly yard.

Here they have added a string of Cape Ann tank cars to the train to help Cape Ann Rail.

Of course the Lighthouse keeper has the best view of the railroad and the days events as he checks on his light.

Here ST #28 brings freight back to Amesbury from the port of Salem and Beverly yard.

The PDLX units are moving more tank cars for Cape Ann Rail.  This is a busy time while the area stocks up on home heating oil.
The Farmers Almanac is predicting a long cold winter this year.

Quincy Northern #8444 works another freight up from the south shore to the busy port of Salem

A close up shot of the old girl still earning her keep.

The engineer sees some dirty pigs in the Beverly yard, no not old hopper cars, but actual pigs.
They have broken loose from a nearby farm to search for truffles in the woods alongside the yard.

Speaking of dirty pigs that reminds me.  Pete Briggs brought an interesting assortment of museum pieces to help out.

Here the Minera Mexicana Connie #12 heats up in the yard and will actually help with Cape Ann Tank Trains today.

Larry lets anything run that will help.

Pete also put his shay to work hauling freight for Cape Ann Rail.

Of course the slow moving puller added to the dispatchers work keeping trains in order.

As the sun starts to set crews from Suleski Transportation head back to Amesbury yard.

The Shay and the Connie will follow our tracks north to NH while PDLX and Quincy Northern trains head south
leaving Beverly yard quiet til morning.
