7/8ths Projects................................ A Fleet of Flats

The shay being 99% done work has moved onto a flat car fleet.
Flats.... because they can be made into anything else.
I have 5 made at this point but I still need to add all the nuts and bolts to the removable bulkhead ends.  And I haven't decided on if the cars should have brakes.  Adding the brake wheel on deck would be easy but hanging all the brakes might be a pain...we'll see...

Off to the store tomorrow to get some more teak decking and poplar for the rest.
I actually had to build 3 before I got one that looked good to me.
 

In scale dimensions the cars are 5 feet wide and 15 feet long and each holds just over a cord of fire wood if I fill it to the top and if the wood is cut to scale 4 foot lengths...pretty standard there.

The stake pockets and wheels are Sierra Valley stuff (18" wheels)  But the frames are 1:20.3, D&RG 3"7" frames by Hartford products...I think they look good under these small cars.  I've made frames from scratch before...talk about work...oy vey
