7/8ths Scale
CapeAnnRail Home Page

7/8ths is what we call it when the models are built to scale of 1:13.7 or 7/8ths of an inch equals one foot.
The 45mm gauge track can represent different gauges depending on the scale; so in 7/8ths scale we wind up with models running on what would be 2 foot gauge track....think Maine 2 foot gauge RRs like the Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes RR

One of the really nice things about 7/8ths is that we can use real wood and screws and glass for all the parts
so the models feel very differently than the typical plastic stuff we buy off the shelf.

Here's a picture of a scale 7/8ths (1:13.7) figure next to a scale 1:20.3 figure.

Here's a few pictures of some cars I built being pulled along by an Accucraft, Mich Cal #2 Shay
that is in the process of being bashed into a freelance 7/8ths scale shay
